Run the Wild ~ Adventure Run Sunday, October 4, 2009 Sandy McNabb Recreation Area, Turner Valley, Alberta
This new race, gives orienteering a different twist!
Welcome to adventure running. We take the sport of orienteering and integrate it with different map formats and test your navigation abilities in a variety of course types from standard point-to-point courses to visual trail orienteering to rougher Rogaine-style navigation. Teams of two (male, female and co-ed) will test their mettle on some of the most beautiful terrain Alberta has to offer. Come and join us on this awesome adventure.
This race will be 5-6 hours endurance run, so your fitness will be tested as well.

Run the Wild is held in the Sandy McNabb Recreation Area in the Sheep Valley. This area is very close to Turner Valley situated in the Alberta Foothills of the majestic Canadian Rockies. Training for the Event - Brush Up on Your Orienteering Skills
The race will encompass different forms of orienteering on a variety of scales which may include orienteering maps, topographic maps and aerial photographs. This event should test all your navigation skills - International Orienteering Federation (IOF) Control Descriptions will be used.
Contact your location orienteering club to learn how to orienteer. Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Club (FWOC) offer weekly events through the summer to train on a variety of orienteering courses. For Edmonton, the Edmonton Overlanders Orienteeing Club offers similar training, visit their website at www.orienteer.ab.ca .
